With Man Utd away to the Fifa World Cup 2008, it is a good chance for Aston Villa to pass Man Utd in the League table on Saturday.

On Sunday, Arsenal also can go above Man Utd provided they beat League leaders Liverpool, who are top of The English Premiership for the 1st time since its creation, after 17 league meetings. Round 9 is back after an international break, where almost all the top teams in Europe were at their best.

Coming back to round 8, Arsenal managed to snatch a point from Sunderland in the last minute of the game, while Man Utd and Chelsea were easy winners.

While Liverpool came from 2-0 behind to win at Man City and enhance their position as favourite to win the Premier League, Tottenham suffered another setback and lost at home to a very suprising team of the moment: Hull City.

Everton lost 2 precious points against Newcastle in the last match.

This week, of the Top Big 4 of the Premier League, only Chelsea will be playing away to Middlesbrough, while Liverpool and Man Utd will be at home against Wigan and West Brom respectively. Arsenal will be at the Emirates Stadium to face Everton.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa will be playing against Portsmouth.

The 3rd round has been quite interesting with Chelsea and Manchester United winning by a small margin, while Liverpool fought back from behind to win in the last kick of the game. Arsenal is z only team among the big 4 to lose and pressure will be on them this week.

Man Utd will be away to Stade Louis II to try to win the UEFA Super Cup against Zenit St Petersburg. Remember this cup is played between the UEFA Cup winner and the Champions League winner.

Returning to the Premiership, interesting matches are scheduled and this weekend may well put forward the potential candidates to succeed to Man Utd for the Premiership.

With Everton and Arsenal playing on Saturday, we will have an explosive Sunday with a London derby between Chelsea and Tottenham, and also Man City playing away.

What football lovers have been eagerly waiting for is round the corner.
Yes, The Charity Shield, which marks the beginning of the English Football Season is scheduled for the 10th of August 2008.

This match will be between League Winners Manchester United and FA Cup Winners Portsmouth.
In itself, this match does not have a great importance but for both teams it will be an indication how much fine tuning is left before they hit top gear.

United have a team which is currently deprived of two of its main attacking options, Rooney and Ronaldo while Portsmouth is still trying to find a cohesion in the squad after some major changes.

Who will claim the season's first trophy?

The quest to be European Champions 2008 is nearly over. Initially there were 16 aspirants, but now there are only two teams who can aspire to be rulers of Europe.

Germany battle hard against the Turks, with Lahm scoring the winner in the dying moments of the semi-final. Spain battled hard against the Russians, but eventually ran out easy winners.

The final will be between two teams having different styles of play. The Germans play a more aggressive and direct football while the Spaniards play the beautiful passing game. Ballack and Co. are known to be a hard workers, who will chase every ball, and they should do so, knowing the form of their keeper, Jens Lehmann. Xavi usually play a waiting game, letting the right opportunity to come to knock the killer punch.

Euro 2008 Round 5 - Semi Finals

Round 4 has been very exciting with the teams contesting so hard to be in the last 4 for the semi finals.

Of the 4 matches scheduled, three of them went to extra time and two of them to penalty shootouts.

Only Germany managed to win it in the 90mins, with an excellent Schweinsteiger who was later voted man of the match.

Turkey scored late in extra time to make it all square against Croatia and went to win the penalty shootouts.

Nistelrooy also scored late for Holland but in the 90mins to take the tie against Russia to extra time, but this time there was no penalty shootouts as Arshavin(for me the best player of the tournament) decided otherwise and sent Russia to the semi finals.

In the last Quarter Final, it was a mouth watering tie between Spain and Italy. The match went to penalty shootouts with neither team being able to score. With an excellent Casillas, Fabregas concluded the shootouts to send Spain face Russia in the semi finals, and the World Champions Italy home.

Round 3 being the last match of group stage has been lucky for outsiders like Russia and Turkey, while the favourites Germany and Italy managed to make it to the Quarter Finals.

Greatest deception has come from France who finishes last in its group. Czech Republic being eliminated has also been a deception.

The Quarter Finals start today with a great Portugal-Germany and will end with another great match between Spain-Italy.

Euro 2008 starts on Saturday. It will be the major event for the next month. The 16 best teams in Europe will be competing to be the Champion.

For the group stages, points will only be awarded for the correct scorers in a match, and the correct score.
3 pts will be awarded for each correct scorers and correct number of goals.
1 pt for each correct scorer [irrespective of number of goals scored]

This week is crucial for four major teams in Europe, as the aspirations of two of them to become Champions of Europe will be delayed for next season. At the end of this week, there might be the possibility of an all English final, or a Spain v/s England final.

Both semi final legs finished as draws, with Riise scoring a last minute own own for Chelsea, and Cristiano Ronaldo missing a first minute penalty. The return legs promise to be explosive as all the four teams will try to finish off their opponents to book their place in Moscow.

Prediction League Round 19

This round will focus on the return leg of the Champions League. After this leg, there will be atleast an English team less as Liverpool will be hosting Arsenal at Anfield in a electrifying atmosphere. The Kops seem to have the upper hand as they scored an important away goal, and a scoreless draw would suit them.

Chelsea will need to show a determined performance in order to go through and setup an all English semi final with either Liverpool or Arsenal. They are currently trailing 2-1 to Fenerbahce, a side which will go to Stamford Bridge as underdogs with the hope of causing a major upset.

Manchester United will go in their tie against AS Roma as super favourites as they have a two goal lead against the Italians, and barring a calamity, they are expected to go through to the semi finals. However, with both Ferdinand and Vidic injuried, the Italians might fancy their chances. Another important point to note in this match is whether Cristiano Ronaldo will be able to extend his goal tally, as he looks to break Dennis Law's record.

The other quarter final will involve Barcelona against Schalke 04. The Catalans managed to win 1-0 in Germany, but it remains to be seen whether they can preserve this lead as they have been quite inconsistent for the past few months.

The Premier League resumes after some fantastic European matches were the English teams were at the centre of attention. Manchester United and Liverpool did well in their respective ties, while Chelsea and Arsenal are not out yet.

This week, Arsenal will host Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium in a bid to revive their title aspirations while the Kops will try to guarantee that Everton do not overtake them. Both teams played against each other on Wednesday, with The Reds finding the equaliser through a great individual move by Steven Gerrard. More will be expected of LFC's captain, and few will bet that he will disappoint. Adebayor has started scoring again after going through a lengthy barren spell and he will hope that he can build on it.

Prediction League Round 17

This round will deal with the first leg of the quarter finals of the Champions League. All the ties will closely followed, as upsets are bound to happen, as in the last round. The eight best teams in Europe will be in action to the delight to the millions of football fans around.

Manchester United will go to Rome in a remake of last year's corresponding tie. The Romans will try to avenge the humiliation the received last year by trying to gain an upper hand in the first leg itself. Cristiano Ronaldo is playing like a man possessed, and it will be interesting to see if he can carry his form onto the European stage.

Schalke 04 will be hosting Barcelona in Tuesday's other match. This match will be interesting to watch as the Blaugranas are currently faltering, and the German side can realistically achieve a good result.

On Wednesday, Arsenal will welcome Liverpool in an all English tie. Both teams have won their last matches and are currently on a high. The Gunners will be hoping that they continue their winning run after not having won quite a few matches before their win on Saturday. The Kops will be hoping for another great European night, and that El Nino strikes again.

In the last match, Chelsea will go to Turkey to face Fenerbahce, a team which should not be underestimated. Roberto Carlos has demonstrated that even though he is past the 30 years age barrier, he can play top class football. The Blues will also have to take care of Alex, the Brazilian playmaker who can score as well.

This week is Grand Slam Sunday, where the Big Four teams are playing against each other. Manchester United will be hosting Liverpool at Old Traffford hoping for another victory in the league against their arch rivals. This week is FA Cup week, and neutrals will be hoping for more magic after some giant killing feats in the last round.
